Formula 1 – The Essence Of Motorsports

The 2009 F1 season is a few months old and the remaining 10 races are bound to be as exciting as the first 7. Whereas the last seasons have been about Ferrari battling it out with McLaren Mercedes, this year a new pecking order has been established. The former Honda team re-emerged as Brawn GP and under the leadership of Formula 1`s veteran Ross Brawn. Brown has quit his job as racing director of the Scuderia Ferrari not too long ago, but seems as hungry for success as ever.

The architect behind Schumacher`s and Ferrari`s unmatched triumphs seems to have a winning combination of competitive car and skilful driver once more. Jenson Button, who first drove a Formula 1 car in the 2000 season and by now has 262 races under his belt, has won 6 out of the 7 races so far. Currently, he is in a quite comfortable position on top of the leader board for the driver`s championship leaving his teammate Rubens Barrichello and the two drivers of the other surprise team of this season to chase him. Red Bull Racing find themselves in a fantastic 2nd position in the race for the constructor`s title. The young German Sebastian Vettel is the only driver so far to brake Brawn GP`s domination with his win in China.

Last year`s champion Lewis Hamilton in his McLaren Mercedes and the normally competitive team Ferrari are trailing so far behind already. This season`s objective has to be damage limitation and a better preparation for next season.

The dramatic change in Formula 1`s hierarchy is good for motorsport in general and most certainly will please the neutral racing fan. We undoubtedly are set to witness 10 more exciting races at the highest level and who knows who will win this year`s driver`s and constructor`s title after the final race on the newly built Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
