Free Things To See In London
London Silver Vaults Everyone has heard of the famed royal collection in the Tower of London, but more of a secret are the capital's silver vaults, secreted away near Chancery Lane at the heart of central London. This secret treasure boasts the most significant collection of historical silver on the planet, and many of the exhibitions are free. University College London University College London's Department of Earth Sciences has spent the majority of the last two centuries gathering an enormous collection of rocks, minerals and fossils from across the globe. They're all free to enjoy, but opening hours are restricted so you may be required to call first and reserve an appointment. The collection is found next to Euston Square tube. The Hunterian For something a bit more gruesome then head to the Hunterian Museum at the Royal College of Surgeons. Gathered by John Hunter over two hundred years ago, the Hunterian boasts some 3,000 specimens of human and animal anatomy. The Soanes Museum The Soanes Museum is another scarcely known gem of the heart of London, hidden away between the law offices in Holborn's Lincoln's Inn Fields, it shows off the bizarre collection of Sir John Soanes. The museum is filled with unexpected items and is a great way to spend an afternoon. On Tuesday evenings, the collection stays open late and you can take part in a candlelit tour, but be sure to join the queue with plenty of time to spare. These are nothing more than one or two of the cultural delights of the city, and we've skipped over many of the more famous sights to show you a few oddball delights. London is a excellent tourist destination, and has secret treasures that very few tourists bother to look up, but it's not until you get off the beaten track a little that you really see just how wonderful London really is.
