It's really interesting the amount of people that make friendship bracelets. The concept behind them is to give one as a gift to a friend that will hopefully bond your friendship together forever. They are really just for platonic friendship but I know some people that have given them out of love for one another also.
I started making friendship bracelets when I was a young girl. My mom purchased a starting kit for me to get me started. It basically consisted of all the material your needed and instructions so you could make around 20 bracelets for your friends. In the beginning I found this quite difficult because I really couldn't figure out how to do the knots. I did find it difficult to be honest and it really took my mom to sit down with me and go over the basics.
Like everything else if you have a good understanding of the basics you will find this much easier to do. I think the time that my mom spent with me showing me the basics really set a good foundation for being able to figure out some of the more complex patterns I came across a late life.
I really began to enjoy making them and had endless hours of fun. I was able to make so many different types of bracelets and was lucky enough to have a crafts store nearby that had a really nice range of materials and have a great selection of colors. I remember one time buying a special set that just came with so many different types of strings and colors I simply loved it.
My daughter has now started to make friendship bracelets in the beginning we spent some time together making sure that she understood the basics. I bought a special gift for her, which had lots of different types of patterns that she was able to pick up very quickly. The funny thing is for friends I'll start to make them at the same time and started to exchange and give each other gifts.
It's funny how something I started doing a long time ago has now been passed on to my own daughter who is now spending the time learning more complex patterns as she has access to the Internet which you can learn gain experience from others.
