From Government Official To Entrepeneur
Someone once said to me that I ought to find out what I feel passionate about and just go for it! Great I thought, all very well for them to say that, but I did not know what I felt passionate about. The more I thought about it, the more I found that I could answer the following; for example, I knew that I enjoyed helping people and that I enjoyed learning new things and stretching myself to take on new activities. The next step was to combine all of these 'passions' some-how. This led me to acknowledge that I needed to setup a business that could offer me the tax benefits of being self employed, plus a structure that supported any future expansion without me having to re-invent the wheel. What evolved was Sustainable Wealth Solutions. I created this business within the much larger structure of a US based, privately owned company, that allowed me to combine wealth creation with personal development. The company is only new to Australia but there were several aspects of the company that appealed to me and that met my needs. These were: that the company was not a multi level marketing company; it was not pyramid selling; it was not party plan or trotting around the place lugging suitcases full of wares, which is not a criticism of those who do that, rather it is just not for me; the compensation plan just blew me away, I would get paid upfront and could earn anything from $1000 USD to $8000 USD using a the company structure; finally, I wanted to be working from home with my laptop and my phone. Using this system I felt safe leaping out on my own and working for myself without a lot of overhead or stress, working only 25-30 hours per week. My personal development needs were met by learning new skills related to internet based businesses and marketing - either internet based marketing, print media, personal contact marketing, permission marketing and so on. Having predominantly worked in a policy role, marketing was very new to me and has now become a core element of my business and continues to challenge me to find the best marketing opportunities and approaches without costing the earth.
