From A Small Field In N. Carolina, To Around The World.

The Wright Brothers had one idea; to take flight using their invention of the glider. In 1900 in Kitty Hawk, N. Carolina their idea became reality. Today, we have International Corporations ushering millions of travelers all over the globe on planes that can carry 100s of passengers at a time.

Most of the machines and contraptions we take for granted today, began as someone’s simple, and sometimes outrageous idea. Renewable energy from the sun is one such idea. It’s been around for decades, but until now hasn’t seen the “light of day” in most applications.

With today’s economy, and dwindling resources for fossil fuels, the world is in hot pursuit of this “new” form of energy. The use of Solar Panels for personal homes has been sporadic to say the least. Now we’re seeing much more widespread use of this technology.

Consider this. The Tres Amigas Project, a renewable energy market hub is a project that would allow renewable energy to be distributed across the country through Superconductive Energy Pipelines, a massive transmission project from New Mexico. This project would unite Americas 3 power grids. It would allow “solar rich” areas to purchase energy from “wind rich” areas at night. The reverse would take place during the day when those areas would then supply their energy needs from the solar areas.

There have been smaller programs popping up all over the U.S., but this would essentially tie up all the loose ends, providing renewable energy to all of our countries areas.

Renewable energy isn’t only growing geographically. It’s growing scientifically too. Advances are being made towards cheaper manufacturing methods and scientific improvements. Scientists and engineers are using nanotechnology to devise a method of combining photovoltaic with painting so that solar could be applied to a multitude of surfaces thereby giving this energy from much more flexibility. Chemists at the University of California, Berkeley have been working with this same idea, envisioning application to small hand held devices and even clothing.

What does all this mean for you? Renewable energy, whether it be from the wind or the sun, is becoming more accessible and cheaper for you as an average consumer. DIY programs are available on the internet and from various solar panel market place suppliers. The materials are available from most local hardware stores.

Before you jump into the project of installing an Alternative Energy System to your home, do your research. Find out everything you can, from cost estimating, material needs and availability, to government programs for tax credits and utility company “buy back” programs.
