If you are using your website to raise funds for a charity then many of the ideas and the approaches you can take are similar to any other income generation strategies on the web. You will need a mix of income sources and you need to automate as many of these processes as possible. There are two keys to your success: good content that the search engines will want to index and in-bound links, lots of in-bound links. Your aim, wherever possible, is get as much good content as possible, without having to actually write much yourself. After all, you need to spend your time managing your site and creating new features. So, here are a few suggestions for some low-maintenance income-generation site for your chosen cause (even if that cause is yourself). 1. Set-up an Article Site This is an excellent way of generating income in that once your site is set-up your site visitors submit articles and basically generate your content for you (the same is also true for forums but they're far more difficult to set-up and get a constant source of traffic to them). Then you put ads on the site and generate income from clicks and sales. You still need several hundred articles before your site gets off the ground and several thousand articles before your site begins creating a good income. As a result it's not an over-night income generation method, but in the long-term it's an excellent system. 2. Set-up an eBook or Electronic Products Store This really is an excellent way of generating passive income. It's not a no-cost solution but it is low cost. For less than $30 you can get a good eBook store script that's pre-populated with products you can sell. Most good stores can be installed in less than half an hour so you could be up and running with your store in less than an hour. You can get products very cheaply from other eBook stores and from eBay and once you've set your store up then you can just leave it to manage itself. Payments are automatically handled via PayPal and the store mails download links and updates to your customers. 3. Offer a Product or Service People can't do without This gives you a lot of scope. You could offer SEO-friendly links in return for a donation to your charity. You could offer list creation services for others. If you are a programmer then you could create a widget or application that people will really want to have. Other services might include pinging services or Google analysis services. Basically you're either offering something that will generate money for you, that will generate traffic where you can advertise or will simply give you lots of in-bound links into your site. 4. Ask for Donations Yes, I know that this is obvious, and some of you may think that it should actually be #1 on the list. But the whole point is that the other methods give you a regular income and build traffic to your site. Only when you have real traffic can you begin to ask that traffic to give you donations. Also remember that only when you have enough people coming into your site is it worthwhile your asking some of that traffic to make donations to your cause. Also don't skimp on the information about the charity you're supporting. The more information you can provide to your site's visitors about the cause you're supporting the more likely they are to donate. 5. Affiliate System Yes, I know that in charity circles this is a dirty word. But affiliate programs represents how the internet works. If you can get people to put your links and to market your site on as many places in the internet as possible then your traffic and your income will dramatically increase. That's how and why affiliate systems work. Just think of it as 'advertising' and few big charities don't involve themselves in advertising. The whole point is that you're trying to make money. OK, you're going to donate that money to a cause... But that doesn't give you an excuse not to be successful!
