Best Places to Take Your Date in San Francisco

Gay and lesbian culture has become a distinct part of San Francisco’s identity. Although the city is very tolerant of the gay community overall, there are also hotels, restaurants, attractions and nightclubs that appeal particularly to gays and lesbians.

When planning your next date, consider one of the following places that are well-suited to gay dating in San Francisco:

The Castro District, San Francisco's gay village, is located on Castro Street from Market Street to 19th Street and is home to a variety of bustling bars, shops and the Castro Theatre - a popular movie palace and historic landmark since September 1976. You’ll mostly find art films, camp classics and political documentaries at this theater. After your flick, head directly across the street to QBar (456 Castro Street). It features high energy dance music by a lineup of DJs nightly. Enjoy 2 for 1 drinks during Happy Hour which runs from 4 to 9 pm on weekdays and 2 to 9 pm on weekends.

If you’re looking for a more outdoorsy type date, Dolores Park is a city park at the edge of the Mission District. Catch some sun, play Frisbee, have a picnic or just enjoy the view of the city at Dolores Beach in the Southwest corner of the park. Alternatively, there’s Baker Beach – a tiny, clothing-optional beach with a gorgeous view of the Golden Gate Bridge located at the base of the Seacliff neighborhood.

Have some fun and let loose in the evening at The Mint Karaoke Lounge (1942 Market Street) or if you’re in the mood for something a bit classier, head to Swirl on Castro (572 Castro Street). Here you can sample wines from around the globe at the wine bar, wander through the garden and bask in the uplifting atmosphere or browse the unique selection of wines, wine accessories, spirits, glassware, gifts, books and art.

Spice things up with margaritas and enchiladas at Zazil Coastal Mexican Cuisine
(845 Market Street, Suite 400). The ambience of restaurant’s light blue hues set the scene of the Mexican coast, yet it’s located in Downtown San Francisco’s shopping mecca. If you like tequila, you’ll be happy to know that Zazil has a tequila bar with over 300 premium tequilas – so take your pick or try them all (just kidding). If you’re there for a lunch date forgo the tequila and spend the afternoon window shopping together or trying on designer outfits that you’ll never buy.

There’s so much to do in San Francisco, these are only a few unique and gay-friendly places to consider next time you’re planning a date. With such a vibrant gay community, it’s easy to meet gay singles. But, if you’re timid or find that you attract all the wrong people, a local same-sex dating service, like Nuera Network San Francisco could be a good avenue for you. Nuera Network matches gay singles based on compatibility, so it’s more likely you’ll hit it off with someone special.
