Genealogists Can Receive Re-issued Birth Certificates
These requests are available for all recorded births in Wales and England after July 1, 1833; Northern Ireland births are available after July 1 , 1864 and for people with recorded births in Scotland after Jan. 1, 1855. The requests for re-issued certificates can also be made for citizens born outside the UK as long as the birth was recorded to an appropriate government entity. This would include Embassy, Consular, High Commission or any branch of the Armed Forces registrations. There are two types of birth certificates available that include a Short Birth Certificate and what is known as a “Long Form, Full or A4.” The long types will include all parent information from the original. In the event no recorded father's name is present, the mother's name will be the only parent name reported. The Short Birth Certificate contains no parent names. Due to the fact there exists open access to birth registration information, attempts to use re-issues for fraudulent purposes, when detected or perceived to be for other than legal purposes, will be denied. Additionally, any information about the requester will be transferred to the proper local police authorities for extensive investigation.
