Binge eating is far more common in Georgetown, DC than you might think. And it can range in degrees of severity. We have all done it before. You are at a restaurant with friends and family and the food is incredible. You just do not want to stop eating it. While enjoying good company and good food, it is very easy to get carried away. You eat and eat until you are not even sure you can stand up from your table. This is binge eating and it is not always intentional.
Many places use portion size to draw in customers. While this can mean that people feel like they are getting more food for their money, it can lead to massive overeating. For example, a single 12 oz. prime rib can be over 1000 calories. And that is without the baked potato with butter and sour cream or the beer that washed it all down. All included, the single dinner can be nearly an entire day worth of caloric intake.

If unchecked, binge eating can lead to a disorder where the person begins to feel the need to eat until they are stuffed. It no longer suffices to have a small meal. Cravings take over and mean that weight loss is going to be even harder to achieve. So when you go out for a meal next time, remember that you do not have to feel stuffed to feel full. And sometimes, the doggy bag can be a weight loser’s worst enemy.
