Most of these parts are just a click away. In the past, the only way to locate a used part was to get out the phone book and hope for the best. Today that has changed. The leftover metal frame of the car is then crushed or shredded and the remaining metal is then sold back to various vendors and used create more vehicles. It has been estimated that this process has resulted in enough recovered steel to make 13 million new cars and trucks. This tremendous effort to recover the metal from salvage vehicles allows us to preserve many of our precious non-renewable deposits of iron and aluminum. This reuse of parts also saves huge amounts of energy that are required to make new parts.
