German Shepherd Obedience Training – Unbelievably Effective Tool For Training Your German Shepherd
And this tool has done wonders for my dog’s behavior! So what is this effective tool I’m raving about? Okay the tool that I use for my German shepherd obedience training is called (drum roll please)…a clicker! Alright look, you’ve probably heard of this device before. It’s basically a little plastic box with a metal on top. It makes a clicking sound when you press it. Before this, I tried using a clicker to train my dog but the end result was unsatisfactory. I clicked, clicked, clicked, gave treat, clicked, clicked, treat again and my German Shepherd Yobo, he just stared at me like I’m a hobo or something. So, I gave up and tried other dog obedience training techniques and you know what? Nothing worked! And then, I stumbled upon a clicker training manual online. I saw a sample video on the site and I figured why not just give the clicker another shot. So, I downloaded the manual and viewed the videos online. (You may follow the link at the bottom to take a look at the manual and video details) And what a revelation! My German shepherd obedience training went smoothly thanks to the manual’s easy to follow examples and the clicker exercise videos were top-notch. Alright! Listen closely. In order to train your dog effectively using a clicker, you must take note of the following points: (1) Always aim for high rate of reinforcement especially in the very beginning stages of training. Your dog should earn a click/reward every 5 seconds. Don’t linger for too long during training just waiting for your dog to finally perform the correct behavior (my initial mistake!). (2) When you teach him a new behavior, do it in a zero-distraction environment. Once your German shepherd has learned that behavior, then you can bring him out in the open.
