At this point, I know your feeling scared, disturbed and maybe even a bit dejected about the difficulty you are experiencing with your anxiety, always asking yourself what can I do to get over my fear or driving a car. Perhaps you have had a panic attack when considering driving or nervous tension that makes you too frightened to attempt the driving test, or you may have failed the driving test altogether.

When you are afraid of performing a task which seems so easy and natural to others, the feeling of isolation is common, but don't think that the fear is something that cannot be cured and simply something you have to accept. Well the fact of the matter, it just isn’t true, it’s not impossible, your fear or anxiety about driving a car can be defeated and you’re nowhere near being alone.

Learn to overcome the fear of driving a car.

The fear of driving is a conditioned response resulting from what took place the last time you went out for a drive. Your subconscious mind remembers past events and your response to these events, and should these experience be bad ones, it results in what is known as driving fear. It will find it simple to remember as it produced a psychological impact on you. Your subconscious incorrectly associates that fear reaction with driving and makes the assumption that it will be hazardous and a danger and instigates the flight or flight reaction.

The brain forms neural pathways which let us learn things.

If you drive in a state of fear, your fear of driving is further enhanced. This leads to a greater intensity of fear and thus a vicious cycle as you become more and more fearful of driving a car.

This is the manner in which we learn a variety of lessons, such as riding a bicycle. You have to apply yourself to knowing how to ride, to see that the brain causes the correct balance and skill needed which creates the neural pathways. Before you know it, as those neural pathways reproduce and grow stronger, you’re riding and performing countless little adjustments without even thinking about it. Everything becomes involuntary, so now when you are riding you don't have to really think about it, you automatically do it and the incredible part is that your subconscious knows how.

Similarly, as more neural pathways are formed in your brain linked to the fear of driving a car, they produce an anxious reaction that is virtually on auto pilot and further impressed into your subconscious, until eventually it happens separate from you even thinking about it.

Since this brain training happens subconsciously, the answer to overcoming that burning question of how to get over my fear of driving a car is to clear the old limiting neural pathways of anxiety and replace them with new neural pathways of peace and assurance. This happens at a subconscious level and the reason a lot of programs and therapies are not successful is because they never try to resolve a subconscious issue on a conscious plane, which fails to work.
