The best way to start your lead generating quest is to get an auto responder. You can find them free and paid. If you can find a good free one by all means use it.

Now that that's is done, you must have something to give of value. Yes I said give, as in free. Something people can use to maybe make marketing easier for them. Maybe an ebook or audio on marketing or lead generation. Or if you find one of those free auto responder you could give them access to that or info on how to get it. That would be great. Giving free info will also help those would be leads to trust you and maybe buy something from you later. Giving free stuff will help you to build a relationship with your leads. Don't worry there is countless free stuff on the net. If you have been in online marketing for any length of time you have come across a ton of free stuff.

Now it's time for you to lead generation marketing.

You need a good sales letter. You also need some fallow up letters leading up to your main product. Don't be pushy in your letter just give people something to think about. Answer question that people may ask about different things that have to do with marketing their online business, or what ever it is you are selling. Every email you send in your fallow up letters dose not have to be about what you are selling. Your fallow up can also be about you, your day, something that happened with some one else or whatever. Tell your story; tell some one else's story. Any thing that will help the people in your list think more positive or maybe it will help them get through a situation they have come across. Build a relationship.

Now it's time to get the word out. How do you get this lead generation thing going? Safelist are great for getting leads. Credit based safe list are good because the people using them must click credit links in the email sent to their email box to get credit so they to can send email to the list. Just be sure to get a separate email other than your main email to be used with the credit based safe list. Safe list work but not all safe list is good ones so be sure to track your results.
