Getting Anchored Backlinks To Your Website

Without anchored backlinks pointing back to your site, even the very best content in the world will not get the search engines to take notice of you. To the search engines, a backlink is similar to a vote on the quality of your website and the more votes you have, the higher the quality of the content on your site.

There are multiple ways you can use to get backlinks. I have listed below the more common ways that a webmaster uses to get backlinks.

Creating Anchored Links From Your Own Websites Or Blogs

To accomplish this, you can have one main site about your product, say clocks. You can have a blog that talks about anything and everything related to clocks, a hub at HubPages that describes all the different types of clocks, a Squidoo lens that goes into detail about clock manufacturing, and .... you get the picture. You can then have anchored backlinks from all those sites linking to your main website about clocks.

Post To Forums, Blogs And Web Directories

Another way of getting anchored backlinks is to find places which allow you to post your own backlink. Usual places would include forums, blogs, article directories and web directories. Do be respectful of a particular site's rules on how and in what manner a link can be posted, and don't contribute to the spam that is so prevalent nowadays.

Getting Webmasters To Post Your Anchored Backlink

This is the hardest way to go about getting backlinks. But the general consensus is that these types of backlinks are worth their weight in gold. So, in any campaign to build backlinks to your website, make sure third party backlinks are a priority.

You can find a list of a few standard ways of getting a webmaster to link to your site. But do remember that there are a thousand and one ways to go about this and how you do it is really limited by your own imagination.

Exchange Links. The idea behind this technique is simple - you scratch my back, and I will scratch yours. As the title suggests, the webmasters involved will place backlinks to each other's sites. Usually, the links will be from link directories or from the home pages. More recently, the practice of linking between blog posts, or from within the content of a website, has become commonplace.

Link Bait. The idea behind this technique is to come up with content so good that you don't even have to ask for a link. The webmasters will automatically link to you because it enhances the value of their site. Stuff that is humorous, controversial or downright weird would work well.

Give Away Free Stuff. Give away something like a free ebook, or free web templates, or a free report. Make sure that your site is referenced somewhere in the gift or ask for a link in exchange for the gift.

Conclusion

It was much harder to get anchored backlinks in the early days of the Internet. Nowadays, with social sites like Facebook, Twitter and others, it is sometimes as easy as just asking for a link. However, the competition for links has also increased, so you will still need to stand out with quality content. After all is said and done, the phrase: "Content is king" still holds true.
