Getting The Right Mma Gear

MMA or mixed martial arts is an increasing popular form of sports combat. With high profile fighters like Shelton Benjamin and Brock Lesnar gaining world wide acclaim and pay per view on television it is no surprise that more people want to take part in this sport. Having the right MMA fight gear will ensure you will get the most from this exciting new sport.

When MMA first developed the idea was that people from a various range of styles would fight each other, such as someone practicing karate fighting a sumo wrestler. During this early period, MMA was treated as a novelty. Over time this has developed into a more recognizable fighting style with distinct moves and naturally this means the equipment has had to be adapted for the sport.

Safety is a big issue. Ideally it should have thick padding designed to cushion the impact and it should not wear out over time. Whether you use a hook or a loop the gloves and shin guards should be securely fitted.

Safety gear should be securely fitted. While your boots or shin guard coming loose can be embarrassing it can also leave your body vulnerable. Most people in a sparring situation have the self control to stop if need be. However in a split second it could be dangerous and very painful if they cannot stop in the middle of a punch or kick.

With MMA it is important not to neglect longer distance attacks. Focus mitts help you with punching, while Thai pads are great for effective kicking techniques. Most pads come reinforced with foam to withstand impact. Whether you are punching and kicking, remember to aim for the centre of the pad.

Other practise equipment include training pads. Focus mitts are best for learning punches. While grappling is important in MMA, knowing longer range moves can keep people from getting to grips with you first. As well as punching, knowing effective kicking can make all the difference. Some people use a kick to push while others use them more as a direct strike.

As well as the equipment clothing is also an important part. A traditional kimono is best because it is loose and allows you to move effectively. A good site should show you the best kimono for your height and size. Kimonos are available for men, women and children, designed with their needs in mind. They are hard wearing and designed to cushion the impact of sparring and fighting.
