Getting Things Done In The Office
Delegate Don't waste time doing work that someone is already doing. Find out the roles, functions and what each unit in your organization does and don't be intimidated to delegate your work. Always remember that you should explain what you want them to achieve and give them deadlines. The point of delegating is not only to help you as an individual but it will foster a more efficient system in your workforce. Manage In the corporate world, it is likely that you either host or be invited to attend meetings. Manage your meetings by grading them on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the most useful/ successful. Take further actions or follow up meetings only when it helps you achieve your responsibilities at work while managing others. Prioritize When you are faced with a big project, break it down to smaller task to achieve the objective. Think of the period it needs to complete these task and decide what should be done first or tasks that could be in parallel. Draw a timeline/ flowchart of these tasks so that you can complete the project without being overwhelmed. Recycle When you have project plans, proposals and reports that are successful, keep them so that you can use them as templates for future similar work. This adheres to the 80/20 rule; if you hit 80% you've achieved a high enough standard, and trying to achieve the remaining 30% will take more time than it's worth.
