Getting Your Head Around The Head Lice Problems

The beginning of a new school year opens the door to many new and revisited things, one of which is classrooms filled with kids and a very common head lice problem. This is usually a individual problem until the kids begin to mingle and share personal things such as hats, combs, brushes, hair clips and some pieces of clothing that will most likely see head lice become a huge problem as it starts to spread very quickly from child to child. Cubbies it seems is also a very good breeding ground for these little body creatures.

It is amazing at how fast these little critters can multiply in the right environment and one soon becomes very many as they find new uninfected heads to populate. Now to dispel some myths, head lice are not dirty, they like clean heads and so the better care your child takes of his or her hair the more likely it is that they will be one of the first one's targeted by these little creatures. While there are plenty of over the counter medications that have billed themselves as being the best in lice removal, most are ineffective to say the least and many contain chemicals that are not only harmful to these little pests but to your children as well and many kids have reactions to lice treatments.

So what can you do to not only help rid your child of head lice but to make sure that they stay lice free? Well, quite honestly there are many things that can be done. Using the Robi Comb, which zaps and kills both lice and their eggs is one method of doing harm only to these little creatures and not to the person. Many holistic companies have also gotten on board and created non-toxic treatments that kill lice without the many toxic side effects that can occur with traditional pesticide treatments. Two other treatments that are considered superior are the treatment of these pests using mayonnaise or Vaseline. Application of both of these substances is a bit messy and does leave your hair greasy looking for about a week, however, they do work well in eliminating head lice and suffocating the eggs as well.

Everyone will agree that head lice are a nuisance and there really is very little that can be done to avoid this problem every year when children congregate together in close quarters and contact with each other. It is necessary to treat and re-treat the infestations that head lice cause every year. This is the only real way to rid and prevent the spread of these creatures in such an environment.
