Getting Into The Swing
That's something I have never managed before, yet now it feels like a constant in my life - a non-negotiable part of my daily and weekend routine. I have also managed to work through all the stress in my life and found a new, manageable way of dealing with it. One thing in my favor: I am extremely goal oriented, so always have lists of goals and set dates by which to achieve them. In January, I made a promise to myself that for the whole of this year I would focus on changing my life, and that in terms of work, I would not make any changes. This has been extremely difficult. In focusing on changing my life, I have felt as if I have been ‘missing’ the focus on my work passion. The time is now right to make these changes too. Once I made this decision, the stress lifted, and I feel like a whole new person. Everyone around me has noticed. All of a sudden, I feel much more in control of life in general; and along with that has come a sudden drop in my weight. Hopefully the start of good losses to come. When I attended a function hosted by the Sports Science Institute in preparation for a Fun Run, which will be my first 10km run, I was looking for inspiration. Well, I was amazed. I learned so much, and wished that I had done this years ago. I now feel like I have the tools to help. I have a better understanding of the right foods to eat before, and what to drink during a race; how to mentally prepare; and how to train. And so my training continues: three sessions a week of Running/walking and two gym sessions. Then I nave one free day, and one day to exercise as I choose. I normally walk, practice golf at the driving range, play tennis or squash. Last Saturday I decided to run and see how far I could go without stopping, and I managed 43 minutes and 5,4km. So I have a long way to go before managing the 10km, but I plan to keep trying as it is one of my goals for the year. Considering the life changes I have already made, this is one ball I have no intention of dropping.
