Give Me Some Weight Loss Motivation Tips!

Many people start on a weight loss program full of zeal and the best of intentions, but somewhere along the way, before they have reached their weight loss goal, they give up, and rather than maintaining the weight they have attained, some regain the weight they lost. Some people jump from one weight loss plan to another, each time hoping they have found the "silver bullet" of weight loss, but never have any success. With literally thousands of diet plans that work to chose from, why is it that so few people actually succeed in meeting their weight loss goals?

The key to success is motivation. As with many endeavors in life, those who succeed with their weight loss goals are motivated to do so, and they maintain their motivation throughout, not just at the beginning when enthusiasm is high. And after you have achieved your weight loss goal, you need yet more motivation to maintain the ideal weight you worked so hard to attain. Here are some weight loss motivation tips to help you achieve your weight loss goals.

- There's the old saying about the longest journey begins with one step. Don't focus on your end goal, especially if you want to lose a great deal of weight. You will feel overwhelmed. Make a few small changes and give them a chance to take effect. Then make a few more changes. You will be making gradual changes in your habits rather than all-at-once unreasonable changes that almost surely doom you to failure. Remember, success breeds success.

- With digital cameras it's easy to keep a photo journal of your progress. Take a picture of yourself at regular intervals during your dieting. Periodically congratulate yourself on your progress by looking at the old pictures, compare them with the latest and see how far you have come. There's another old saying, "On your climb up the mountain don't always look up to see how far you have to go; look back to see how far you have come."

- Find others who are working toward the same goals. Join or form a slimming group. You can provide support, education, and encouragement to each other.

- After you've lost some weight, get rid of the clothes that are now too big for you. Keeping those old too-big clothes is an invitation to backslide and fit into them again.

- Be your own weight loss advocate. Be honest with yourself about why you are overweight, but don't beat yourself up over it. Understand that it is NOT easy to make excuses about how you are because it is hard to be unhappy with your health and your weight.

There are probably thousands of weight loss motivation tips, but the most important thing to remember is that someone else cannot motivate you. All the tips in the world mean nothing if you do not provide your own motivation from within.
