Globally Acceptable Rules Of Carrom

Carrom is a world renowned game played throughout the world with great interest, it is played with the help of a carrom board, carrom coins, carrom stand on which the board rests and a striker the positioning of which determines the shot output. There are some simplified rules that have been laid out with regard to the number of players, coins positioning, seating arrangements, shooting styles, forward shots and backward shots. The rules have been explained below in a paragraph format:

Number of players: The numbers of people who are allowed to play carrom are either two to four. Incase, there are two people who are sitting on opposite side to each other, they are referred as partners. It is an exception, incase you are intending to play with three players then you need to play on the basis of point system.

Coins positioning: Arrange the carrom coins on the carrom board with the red queen placed at the centre and do remember to arrange white colored coins placed in the shape of the alphabet Y and then two white coins placed straight in the position facing the corner pockets. The nine black coins need to be arranged in such a way that the first three black coins need to placed in the shape of V in the top and then the remaining six coins need to placed on either sides in an inverted position of V against each other. They need to be placed in the inverted shape of V below and a perfect V in the top. There would be three splits of nine placed in three sets.

Seating arrangements: Each player sits on one side of the board and he can utilize only his side, the contestant who has white coins plays first and this can be simply decided with mere toss system. The main objective of the game is to put all the carrom coins in the pockets before the opponent does. You can continue with your turn as long as you put the coins in the pocket and after the opponent finishes his chance.

Shooting styles: It is important to note the fact that the striker which shoots must touch both of the base lines or the end circle or it must not touch it at all. Bottom line, partial touches are not allowed and do not touch the diagonal arrow lines. There are a number of shooting styles and it is important to note the fact that these styles are very personal and it depends on the grip you follow as long as the striker does not gets pushed. It is very important to note that you adapt yourself really well for shooting properly.

Forward and backward shots: For the purpose of forward shots, it is important that you use the index, middle finger or you can even try out the scissors shot. Before shooting, ensure that the striker is well on line, thus offering good accuracy and safety against injuries. For back shots it is important that you use only your thumb or the scissor technique.
