Gluing A Jigsaw Puzzle
The first thing that you must do is to slide baking parchment / wax paper / plastic wrap under the puzzle (after you’ve finished it of course), by doing so you will protect the surface of the puzzle. We recommend that you ask somebody to help you so that one of you stands at one end of the puzzle while the other takes a wide piece of wax paper / plastic wrap and gingerly slips it right under the puzzle. The puzzle glue should be applied directly to a damp sponge. We recommend a soft and big sea sponge. Now you need to gently apply the glue from the sponge onto the puzzle in very long swipes. It is best to start right from the top on the left edge and smooth the glue down to the bottom. You should repeat this process and move on across the remaining of the puzzle until you’ve applied enough glue in one thin, even coat over the puzzle’s total surface. Use soapy water and a different sponge to get rid of the spills. After that, wait for about 15-20 minutes (depending on the glue) for the first coat to dry. You now need to apply a second coat of puzzle glue to the front of your finished puzzle. Use the same technique we’ve mentioned above with the exception that this time the glue should be applied horizontally instead of doing vertical strokes. After you’ve applied the second even coat, wait for another 15 minutes. When you are certain that the puzzle is fully dry, turn it over. Now, apply one coat of puzzle glue to the back of it and wait for it to dry. We recommend that you use the exact same puzzle glue and method to adhere it to a backing, like a thin piece of wood. If you want to frame the puzzle, now would be the best time to do it. Remember, avoid brushing or sponging too much glue on at one time as it will cause your puzzle to swell up and it may even cause the picture to begin peeling off the puzzle pieces. There are many quality puzzle glues out there. Some of them provide a sponge or a brush for applying. Read the label as it will tell you the size and number of puzzles it covers.
