Going To College Is A Growing Experience

College affords budding adults the opportunity to find themselves. When it comes to the transition from childhood to adulthood, most people see that their children actually transition much more effectively when they go away to school than when they stay home and work or go to school while living with Mom and Dad. This may not be true for all but it will help a lot of people.

There are a lot of benefits to going away to school and by far one of the most important is getting away from the parents who raised them. This will allow them to grow and change as individuals and most parents find that by the end of the first semester they already can see signs of growth and difference in their young adults.

Even though college students, especially those living on campus are under a certain amount of supervision and guidance, they are also relatively free to do as they wish, to come and go as they please, and to establish their own goals, boundaries, and rules as they go. This creates somewhat of a safety net while still allowing the teen to become an adult and learn more about the world they live in.

Perhaps one of the reasons why it is easier on everyone if your teen does their maturing on a college campus is because they do so out of their parent's reach. The parents find this much easier because they don't have to watch their teens make the mistakes that they are going to and of course the teen can tell their parents as much or as little as they want during this process. On the other hand, even the students appreciate this experience because under Mom and Dad's watchful eye they are less able to find themselves and make the mistakes that are essential for the kind of growth that it takes to make these young people into solid and well-functioning adults.

On the whole, the good news is that most teens grow up eventually. Allowing your teen to do so by going away to university can be a great way to allow them to spread their wings and learn to fly without you having the prospect to meddle in what they are doing. So pack up all the dorm room goodies and send them on their way knowing that in a few short months they will start get started to become the adults you are dreaming about.
