Gold Jewellery And Silver Jewellery - Finding The Winner

Lately one finds that gold jewellery is no longer the only option for those looking to shop in the jewellery for sale counter. Designer jewelry has made silver highly popular and more and more buyers are choosing to pick fine silver jewellery rather than restrict their choice to the gold section only.

Indeed, silver jewellery has made a mark for itself. However, one does wonder about the reasons behind the shift towards silver ornaments and also if this will cause a drop in the gold rates.

The reasons for silver jewellery gaining popularity are plenty. A few of these are listed below –

• Cost – The price of silver is much lesser than gold. This is indeed a great attraction to the buyers, who find that they need not dig deep into their pockets in order to make a purchase at the jewellery for sale section of a mall.
• Larger variety – Since the cost of creating silver ornaments is much lower than making gold jewellery, the silver section does offer a much larger variety in terms of designs. This is of course luring for the buyer.
• Finer designs – Initially silver ornaments were usually not well finished and of lower quality that their gold counterparts. However, lately there has been a lot of fine silver jewellery being produced and right from ethnic pieces to modern designs; the silver jewellery market offers it all. The workmanship and finesse of silver jewellery matches its gold and platinum competitors to the T.
• Durability- Gold is a much softer metal as opposed to silver and as jewellers worked with silver they realised the durability of the material. Buyers are today happy to pay for precious stone ornaments that are set in silver since the cosmetic appeal of the piece is maintained, while several years are also added to the life of the creation.

Interestingly, the rising popularity of silver jewellery has not affected the rates of gold, which seem to be rising every year. In fact gold ornaments are still ruling the international market despite pretty silver jewellery creations being designed lately. This is mainly because of the high resale value that gold ornaments command as opposed to silver jewellery. Gold therefore has both cosmetic appeal and is seen as an investment too, which does lend it, a lead of sorts.

So, in the deciding the race between gold and silver, gold jewellery does emerge the winner, but this is not to say that silver ornaments are far behind. Also the fact that silver jewellery can be worn on a daily basis with much more ease that gold ones, tends to make them highly popular especially with the 9 to 5 sector. So, the next time you do set out to buy some jewellery, peep into the silver section too, and you may come home with much more than you had bargained for.
