Golf Swing Speed - Quick And Easy Tips To Massively Increase Your Golf Swing Speed
A lesser known practice technique is to practice your full swing with a weighted club. These can be found at golf shops and are quite simply heavier than normal clubs with extra weight in the club head. By practicing this way you are training all your muscles to remember an increased tempo than they are used to when swinging a normal club. Quite simply the heavy club is making your swing faster due to the extra weight in the club head. You may well experience an added benefit of stronger muscles but it is the action that is key - when you come to swing your normal club your muscles will be so used to the increased speed they operated at with the heavy club that you will continue to swing at that pace. Relax. That's right. A tense and stiff swing will actually reduce your golf swing speed. Many amateurs naturally assume the harder they try and the harder they grip the club the further they will hit the ball. Simply not true. Your golf swing speed needs to be at its maximum at the point of contact which cannot be achieved if you try to swing as hard as possible from the top of the swing. This will cause a decelerating club head - your focus should be on tempo and maintaining flexibility in your swing so that you're building up speed as you swing through. Allowing the club to whip through using its own weight to increase speed will provide much more swing speed than you thought possible. This also applies to your grip technique. Holding too tight will dampen the club head speed. Try to hold the club as if you're squeezing a little toothpaste out of a tube. Instead of heading to the gym to load up those muscles stay in your living and do plenty of stretching. Yes, building up your muscles isn't going to hurt in your quest for distance but its the flexibility in your body that gives you that little extra. When you are swinging you are asking your upper body to rotate round your core. The more you can create a tight 'coil' the more your body is going to naturally unleash when you swing through. To get this coil effect you need to be as flexible as possible. Learn stretches that mimic the golf swing such as resting a club behind your neck, holding with your hands as if you were about to push the club to the ceiling and rotate your upper body until you feel tension in your muscles. Do not overdo but gradually increase the tension as your body gets more and more flexible. The top golfers in the world may not look like tuned up athletes but you'll find that most if not all are incredibly flexible in comparison to the average golfer.
