It is common knowledge in the PPC world that people new to PPC often make the same mistakes. If you have campaigns that get a lot of clicks that do not convert into sales then you should stop doing the following:
1. Submitting the same keyword bids for both the content network and the search network. Google AdWords default setting is to show your ads on both networks. I would advise not selecting the content network as conversions are considerably lower than the search network and buyers less targeted. By using just the search network you will be able to ascertain what keywords are profitable in less time.
2. You will want to have your keywords targeted towards hungry buyers and not general web browsers. Too often people new to PPC will use general keywords and broad matches related to the product they are trying to sell. The result will be a lot of clicks but no sales. You should always use exact match for your general keywords and make sure your list of negative keywords to stop your ads appearing to search terms not related to the product you are trying to sell.
3. The biggest mistake people make with PPC is to not deep link their ads to specific products on their websites. Never send a visitor to your home page from your Google ads. You should direct your buyers to the product page on your website.
By eliminating the above simple mistakes, you will quickly cut your costs and make profits with PPC advertising.
