Before advertising with Google, it is important that you know the basics of Google AdWords. Google has undoubtedly changed the face of the web. In fact, Google AdWords has made over 16 billion dollars for Google in 2007 alone. But despite that, not all advertisers profit from Google AdWords.

To make sure that you are successful in your endeavour with Google AdWords, you do not have to bid on expensive keywords. The keywords that you bid on must be relevant to your website, but they may not necessarily be the most expensive. Read on for more Google AdWords tips.

Use Your Keywords

You should include your keyword in any Google AdWords ads. An average person glance through their Google search results very quickly, so you must place in your keywords strategically to grab their attention. Otherwise, your ad will be missed and lose a chance for sale. Of course, you ad must also be appealing, compelling and make total sense. It can be difficult to create compelling ads on such a short space. It’s a waste of time, effort and opportunity, if you don’t include the keywords in your ads.

Making Use of Bidding Strategies – High to Low Bidding

Lets take a look at how Google ranks your ads. Your ads are ranked according to your bid price and your click through number (Click Through Rate or CTR). The CTR is the number of clicks your ad gets when it was shown. As a newbie, your ads initially get a low quality score, putting you on a disadvantage compare to older and more experience advertisers. Thus, you should start bidding a little higher to get visibility. By bidding higher, you get more exposure and higher CTR. This gets you better CTRs, and then you can slowly lower your bidding price. You aim is to have the lowest possible price that still keeps your ad on the first page.

Bidding from Low To High

Another method of bidding is by starting with low bids. This is mostly used with keywords that are less competitive or if your budget are limited. You start off by placing a low bid price and then slowly increasing that price until you reach the first page. Still, it is important to work within your budget, keep your ads on the first page while bidding as low as possible.

Use Negative Keywords

Negative keywords are used in order to prevent your ads from showing up in searches that are unrelated. There is a selected market of people you want to focus on and your ad must appears in front of them. Sometimes, by not using the negative keywords, your ad can appear in an unrelated search term and in front of the wrong audiences. For example, you might be selling a dog collar and "collar" is your keyword. Your ad will appear each time a person types in "collar", but there are many topics surrounding the word "collar" and the person may not be necessarily looking for dog collar. He could be looking for cat collar. So, you use "cat" as an negative keyword to prevent your ad from appearing. You must use the negative keywords to target your ads. This will increase your CTRs and give your website more relevant visitors.

Ad Testing

Testing ads is very important,Google AdWords can be a pain in the neck to use at times, but one good thing about it is that testing in Google AdWords can be automatic. You simply place two different ads in each Ad group. Google displays both of these for you and record your CTR. After running your ads for some time, based on the CTR results of each ad, you can choose which ad to use. If you have plenty of ads, you can continue the testing process until you find out which ad works best.
