Great Short Dollhouse Accessories: Layout Concepts

Floor Trim for your Dollhouse

Everyone likes to tweak there dollhouses from time to time. The last dollhouse that I was making I discovered a great addition that really made my interior stand out. I simply created a floor board to use for the trim around the floor of the dollhouse. Floor Trim is not a new creation, but what I found is instead of buying it, to use a very thin balsa wood found in most craft stores. I painted them white, which went with all the walls in my dollhouse, and attached them to the floors throughout the house. What I found is that they covered up the tiny bumps between the walls and the flooring. It also prevented the wall paper to come unglued because I was covering the bottom edges with the trim. This discovery truly was a small one, but I believe that it really added to my dollhouse.

Accessorizing with Fabrics

Dollhouses contain an enormous potential for miniaturists and hobbyists alike. For instance the amount of detail that is available to you is mesmerizing. Fabrics and cloth is one awesome example as you can coordinate colors and have your favorites stand out. The bedroom is an excellent demonstration of detail and the breadth of items that you can create. Everything from curtains and pillows, to mattresses and blankets can be created and made to fit. In addition to the bedroom just think of the dinning room rug, curtains, and even napkins! From there we move to the bathroom where you can create your own shower curtains, toilet seat covers, and more. Now I hope that you can see the unending possibilities that await your linens, cloths, and fabric designs.

Flooring, Changing the Base of your House

It is the small things that once changed make the biggest difference, and in this case flooring is a great small change for a big difference. Flooring is often overlooked because it is the base, but that only means that it is really the foundation for your furniture and design choices. Not only that, it adds a very distinct touch that will take your dollhouse and move it to the next level. You have many choices in this decision and every type of flooring will not work for each room - The standard 5 are Carpet, Linoleum, Tile, Stone, and Hard Wood. The most popular choice is carpet, probably because we enjoy carpet so much in our houses. Linoleum and tile are basically the same for your kit in application, they are simply different designs. The hardest type of flooring to add is a stone or hard wood option, but in the end these are the best from a designing standpoint.

Lighting your way to a great look

Lighting and dollhouses is a little like magic at Christmas time, it adds a tremendous awe factor, but you have to be at the right point to get started. When you add lights to it you are dedicating a bit of time and energy, you are also stating that it will not be used for toddlers, but receives more of a collectible status. It is really a lot of fun to light your dollhouse and at the same time a challenge to learn new things. At the same time, isn't the challenge why we are in this hobby?Lighting is as simple as a wire connection and a on/off switch. In fact with the instructions at hand you will be surprised at how easy it is. Don't expect to do it perfect the first time, try it out, make a mistake and learn from it. We recommend getting a small electrical kit to start, they are simple to set up and get started with. Remember whether you think you can or whether you think you can't you are right.
