Hair Loss After Pregnancy

One thing everyone tells you is hair loss after pregnancy will stop and to wait for it to grow back. This is extremely frustrating seeing your hair over everything, and it does nothing to make you feel better. It will grow back, so take heart that it is not permanent. But as advice on the whole, it is not very satisfying.

When I had my child, I had terribly long hair. I noticed the hair loss really soon, because I left long strands everywhere I went. To say I was upset is an understatement. Then I noticed I was one of the ones that got actual bald spots from it. After that I made a beeline for my hairdresser and sat and told her what was going on. After looking at my hair, and deciding where I wasn't losing it so bad, she came up with a short cut that helped to cover the hair loss.

She also told me to use shampoos for thin hair and to use volumizing products like mousse on my hair. It doesn't solve the problem, but it makes it look much thicker and can help hide the problem areas while I had to wait for it to stop falling out.

One thing to remember, don't dye your hair. This can damage it and make it fall out more rapidly. If you feel the need to color it, a beauty supply has a rinse that doesn't damage your hair as bad, and can be used. Also don't wash it every day. This can make it dry out and become brittle. When my hair was falling out, I started washing it every other day and it did help in not losing so much after a few weeks.

This may be a hormonal thing, too. Eat right, exercise and see sunlight every day. Not only will this help with the baby blues, but it can help your hormones go back to normal. Stress is a factor too, and being a new mom is stressful, so laugh often. This can help keep your hair from deciding to leave the premises.

If you really worry about it, go see a doctor. They can help you find vitamins and determine if the loss is from another cause other then having a baby.

Ultimately, what I did was have fun with my hair loss. I went and bought wigs. Not one or two, but I own a wig in every shape, color and length. They're affordable and look good, and I found I could change my appearance at whim which made it better for me.

It isn't permanent, luckily. My baby is now half grown, and my hair is in better shape then before by taking care of it. I used all of these to make the hair loss less noticeable, and I managed to have fun and learned that while waiting is the only option I may really have, I can do things to make it better for me and hopefully you can use some of these to make it bearable for you.
