Hair Loss Nutrition - Is There Such A Thing?

Hair loss and nutrition - is there any link? Can what you eat, or not eat, affect whether your hair falls out, how fast you lose it, or even cause your hair to grow back?

There is no question that a horrible diet can have a negative effect. As perhaps an extreme example, if your diet contains plutonium or other radioactive contaminants, you'll probably lose your hair. More realistically however, at least for most of us, with today's modern diet it hard to eat healthily which can have all sorts of undesirable physical and mental effects. Certainly not eating right can increase stress, and stress itself can lead to stress hair loss.

Today’s modern diet is high in fat and salt, and common highly processed foods have many empty calories and little nutritional value. With most people’s constant lack of time, it’s easy to succumb to fast foods for many of our meals. It is however becoming much easier to eat healthily than it was just a decade ago. Even the major fast food joints now have relatively healthy and nutritious salads and other fare. These are a far better choice than a burger covered in fatty cheese, sauces, and deep fried potatoes with extra salt on them.

Drinks are another issue. Instead of soda full of absurd amounts of sugar or artificial sweeteners, try drinking water or low fat milk with meals. Avoid endless coffee, and several drinks at night, at least most of the time.

Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and supplement with a multi-vitamin. Try to eat a variety of foods each day to get a variety of minerals, vitamins, and proteins. You can eat supposedly “unhealthy foods” as long as it’s in moderation – I certainly do.

Your body will thank you in the long run if you feed it well. It will have the essential building blocks it needs for hair which just may make a significant swing in the pendulum of your hair loss, perhaps slowing it or even reversing it. You have nothing to lose. Worst case your hair loss will continue, but you’ll look and feel better!
