Hair Replacement Systems: Choice Of Base Materials
The hair prostheses construction is used as hair replacement system to cover baldness. It comes in popular names as hair pieces, wigs, toupees, hair systems and many others. But all mean the same thing. They provide temporary hair replacement. This hair replacement method needs a great deal of maintenance and constant replacing. Nevertheless, it surely gives a person head full of hair.
When looking into hair replacement systems, you may be given options to choose what type of base you like. Would it be made of mesh fabric or polymers? Below are the pros and cons about the two materials used.
*Mesh Fabrics. This is made up of either nylon or polyester. This is used to create the hair lines. Other manufacturers however use this material for the entire base.
The positive sides of the base that has mesh fabrics are: 1. provides natural looking hairlines, 2. lightweight, 3. cool and comfortable to wear. On the other hand, the negative sides about this material are: 1. expensive, 2. delicate or less durable, 3. needs to be replaced frequently, 4. not appropriate for long term use.
* Polymers. The base that uses polymer creates a skin or scalp-like appearance rather than hairline. It is made of either polyurethane or silicone material.
The positive sides with this type of base are: 1) less expensive, 2) easy to attach, 3) durable, 4) can be placed in areas where there is balding. There are however, drawbacks when using this base. These are: 1) can be uncomfortable because it could create heat on the head, 2) can create obvious artificial appearance.
Given these pros and cons, you need to evaluate which among the two materials are appropriate for you.
