Halloween - Family Tradition And Picking The Right Halloween Costume

Halloween on my block has always been jam packed with all sorts of kids trying to out-do each other with the best costumes. We get all kinds from babies dressed as lady bugs, to fairy princess toddlers, bloody gory teenagers and even the occasional clown on 5 foot stilts. Halloween is not just a time of witches and ghosts any more, although originality is still cool, you can play it up however you like. That’s what makes this time of year a ton of fun!

So many times we can get caught up in our busy lives that we don’t even take the time to let loose a little and get out of the ordinary routines that we are so stuck in. This Halloween we need to make a resolution that we will make it the best Halloween yet. Try to outdo last year’s Halloween costumes with more makeup, crazier hair, etc… Step it up a notch! Get out of your comfort zone and live a little! You’ll find that you have so much fun! Some ways that other families have made their Halloweens special is by making their own Halloween costumes, or by getting a group of friends together to trick or treat with. There are so many fun things to do on Halloween.

One of my most memorable Halloweens was back in the 5th grade. My family was invited over to a friend’s house for a Halloween party. One game we enjoyed was one where we were blind folded and had to stick our hands into these cauldrons with food in them. We were told the pot with olives and oil were eyeballs, and another with spaghetti and sausage was intestines. I remember my friends and I being disgusted while the parents had a good laugh. We all enjoyed comparing our Halloween costumes and making popcorn balls. As I spoke with my mother of this party years later, she also told me that she had a great time there too.

Halloween is not just for the kids anymore.Picking out Halloween Costumes can almost be the best part of Halloween. There are so many different things to consider like whether or not you will be trick or treating, or going to a party. Are you going for the sexy look, funny, scary, or practical? We’ve seen doctors, baby outfits, superman, Darth Vader, Sponge Bob, School girls, mummies, brides, angels, butterflies, you name it, you can be whatever you want to be!

I have so much fun picking out accessories for my costume. One year dressed as a baby, I enjoyed picking out pacifiers, footed pajamas, blankets, bottles, and stuffed animals. If you go more for the scary or gory looks, find the perfect fake blood and practice squirting it for a more real effect. I remember a friend of mine dressed as a clown, had fun picking out honking red noses, and squirting bow ties. If you dress as a witch you could have a good time picking out fishnet stockings and fake nails.

So this year, step out of the routine! Halloween costumes are not hard to come by, so show off your fun side with the perfect one. Don’t settle for anything less than the best. Have fun and make this Halloween season one to remember. The possibilities are endless and just a little imagination is all you need to succeed.
