Nowadays, it seems that everything is mass produced. Long gone are the days of taking your time and making something original by hand. Instead, everyone wants to have it now, so make it fast, make it cheap and get it out the door. While, in some instances there is value to this way of life, there are some situations that just call for something a little more personal. If you are looking for a gift or a souvenir to mark a special occasion, do you really want something that can be found in any store, something that was made by a machine, and that hundreds if not thousands of other people also have? Why not instead mark your special occasions with handmade gifts?
Handmade gifts are a great way of letting someone know that you really care. No two items will ever be exactly the same, so you are giving a present that is just as special and individual the recipient. Mass produced presents are easy to find, and require little thought on the part of the gift giver. Unfortunately, that can often mean that they warrant little thought from the recipient after they are received. If you want your gift to be something that stands out in your loved one's memory and collection, then you should aim to give them something that actually stands out!
If you think back to when you were a child, and you were trying to find the perfect present for mom or dad, wasn't it always the handmade gifts that they loved best? You got a certain joy out of making them, and they experienced a certain joy receiving them. Chances are, they kept those handmade treasures, and may even have them today. Can the same be said for every awful bottle of perfume or ugly tie that you bought for them as you got older? It probably can't.
Handmade gifts do not mean cheap gifts. Just because something is not mass produced, does not mean that it is not well made. In fact, you may often find that, items that have had an actual person invested in the creation process and have been handled every step of the way are often much better made and will hold up better to the test of time. And isn't that the best that any of us could want for our nicest gestures, for them to stand the test of time?
