Health Insurance, Big Business, Big Profits

We all have been duped into believing that health insurance is something that was designed to help people in an emergency, when in fact it has taken on a whole different definition and is no longer the benefit it used to be. It used to be part of the perks that employers offered valued employees as a way of showing they are appreciated. In time employers would benefit from this because it encouraged employees to take care of themselves.

Over time, all this good will has fallen by the wayside and while many would say that employers are not doing right by their employees it is important to understand that employers are still looking to give their employees a fair shake but the health care industry has turned on us all. This began back in the 1980's and has been an escalating problem ever since.

The 1980's saw health care become big business and before that, health care was about the individual and their health and well being. If anything, post 1980 health insurance helped people out of their money resulting in less people receiving help while the premiums are not going down.

Many people are not aware of how and why this has occurred but it is due to the fact that insurance companies and the entire health care industry became profitable business. It is important to realize that making health care a profitable venture means that they have to take in more than they make and this of course means denying lifesaving treatments, especially when they are costly. So in many cases, this finds ill people struggling, arguing, and even in many cases begging health insurance companies to pay for treatments and this is just wrong.

In the past, health care was about health and caring and now it is very simply about turning a profit. It is for this reason that health insurance companies are growing out of control and one main reason why the federal government is trying to step in and regulate this out of control industry. Most are opposed to government involvement in the health care industry but in the United States the health care industry has been running amuck for so long it is time for someone to step in and make some changes and if not the government then who? Saving lives means taking the power of life or death away from those who stand to turn a profit from denying life saving treatment to those in need.
