Heart Disease – 3 Myths You Need To Dispel
The following or 3 myths or beliefs that are commonly held about heart disease. Myth One: Heart disease only affects old people There is a belief with many people that heart disease will affect you when you get older. They consider it and old persons disease. Although, the end results of heart disease can appear in many people when they reach middle or old age the beginnings can start as early as adolescence. Therefore, that certainly does not make it an old persons disease. Heart disease is a progressive and gradual disease that does not happen overnight. Many cases of the condition can be brought right back to the childhood. However, more people are suffering the extreme symptoms of the condition at a much earlier age. This can be contributed to a diet that is high in saturated fats. Myth 2: Heart Disease affects more men than women Actually the reality tends to differ. Heart disease is more prevalent as the cause of death of women. Many consider that breast cancer causes more death in women that any other disease. This is probably due to the high profile that breast cancer receives however, women are 6 times more likely to die of heart disease. Actually, it is the cardiovascular diseases combined and that includes stroke are the biggest killers of women. The ironic thing is that most of the deaths could have been preventable by making the right lifestyle choices. Myth 3: Heart Disease is Progressive In the past many people including the medical community believed that the disease was progressive. What we mean by progressive is that once you had it that was it. There was no turning back, it could not be reversed. However, future studies have revealed that this is no longer the case. In many situations the disease can be stopped and even reversed through the proper treatment in conjunction with a healthier lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle has been found to play an influential role in achieving this. This involves eating a diet that is low in saturated fats and combined with regular light physical activity on a daily basis.
