Heartland Rv Reviews - Fifth Wheels & Toy Haulers

The fifth wheels & toy haulers from Elkhart, Indiana based Heartland RV LLC are well worth a brief overview. That's because the purchase, sale and resale of Heartland products is an industry all by itself, and their unique features set a high bar for others to follow. So buckle up and get ready for a trip into the heartland of the recreational vehicle industry.

Their very first RV - a luxury fifth wheel called Landmark, was launched in 2003. It was a watershed moment in the RV industry for many reasons. This includes the fact that while every other company has climbed up from common trailers to luxury RVs, Heartland started right at the top.

The Landmark also has an 88-degree turning radius that makes it possible to hitch it up to short-bed, extended-cab trucks. Before Heartland's patented method came along, it was hard to use these trucks with fifth wheels because of turning problems. Also notable in the Landmark was the use of Universal Docking Centers (UDC) with one compartment containing all the hookups.

Amenity-wise, the Landmark has everything from a 4-door refrigerator to solid surface countertops and a stainless steel kitchen sink. Also, a flat-screen television tucked into the bedroom overhead. All the Heartland models that followed, including the Big Horn and Elkridge, have pretty much all the same features such as bed-room/bathroom suites.

There are variations, of course, in terms of the floor plans, and the look and feel. For instance, the large and spacey Big Horn offers elegant luxury with real hardwood cabinets, bronze hardware and flush-floor slideouts. The Sundance, on the other hand, has a sleek and sporty aluminum frame with fiberglass sidewalls and an aerodynamic cap to boost gas efficiency.

But if there's any one make which best represents everything that Heartland stands for, it would be Elkridge. This luxury fifth wheel is a big animal, much as the Elk it is named after. It also helps that the company is based in Elkhart, Indiana. The space and luxury offered by the Elkridge is unmatched, with a cherry decor and high-end fabrics, quad slide layouts and leather recliners.

As for the toy haulers, Heartland has two choices - Cyclone and the Road Warrior. These are not just half living area, half garage type RV's. The garage area in both models is a high-tech zone with features like recessed beavertail storage bins to maximize storage space.

Cyclone even has convertible electric beds/seating and a removable table, along with a diamond plated tool box. The point is to allow for the garage to be used for other things in addition to storing toys. Throw in all the unique residential and vehicle-related innovations found in every Heartland RV, and it's safe to say that these toy haulers are a cut above the rest.

The company has plenty more models of luxury and mid-level fifth wheels, and then there are also many types and models of trailers. But these features mentioned above are enough to hammer in the point that a Heartland RV is an entirely different breed. The unique patented features, utilization of space and across-the-board luxury found in all fifth wheels & toy haulers is not something that every company can boast of.
