Help Yourself Dodge Foreclosure

The infamous Financial Crisis has seen a significant increase in foreclosure with an 81% increase over the year 2008 in comparison with 2007. Year 2009 doesn’t seem so bright and economists’ predict a rise in foreclosure activity all the way to the year 2011.

Here are some help tips to stop foreclosure and save your home :-

1. Evaluate Financial Status.

List down all your assets, liabilities, equities. Also, list down all daily expenditure, monthly expenditure and yearly expenditure including mortgages, loans and etc.

2. Determine Needs And Wants.

Separate the things you want and the things you need. Keep the things you want e.g.: That new car, etc. aside for a select time frame or until the issue of foreclosure is resolved. Spend on the needs e.g. : Petrol, bread, butter etc. as minimal as possible.

3. Find alternative refinancing.

Instead of panicking of what may happen from foreclosure, SOLVE the problem. Call your lender and discuss the various ways to pay off the loan through mortgage modification and workout plans.

4. Decide whether or not to keep the property.

If YES: Attempt ‘forbearance’. In terms of mortgage, it means that the lender holds back the reinforcing of the payment of debt. Thus, allowing you to stall payment for some time. If NO : Sell the property. Try to contact lender and request to ‘sell short’. If successful, it is a discount on the actual amount needed to pay.

5. Get Back To Finance Basics – Saving.

Instead of trying to invest here and there, get back to basics and try to save as much money as possible. It could be helpful for a rainy day.
