Helping Other People Should Be The Focus Of Your Affiliate Marketing Business

One of the biggest problems I see in the business of affiliate marketing today is that there are too many affiliates that are out to make a quick buck. Many do anything and everything they can to make easy and fast commissions. Some of the practices that are employed include over hyping products, pushing low quality products simply because they have a flashy sales pages that converts and outright spamming. While those practices have tarnished the overall reputation of this business in my opinion it is not entirely their fault. The fact of the matter is most affiliates out there have been taught to do many of those practices by the gurus and their books. There is a better way for affiliates to operate.

First of all it is important for affiliates to understand that the best way to build the trust of people so they will be more likely to buy from their links is to put a new focus on helping people. When you start to worry about helping people instead of just earning commissions by any means possible some good things start to happen. Here is a short list.

1. People start to trust you. When you genuinely help people instead of simply advertising to them and trying to exploit and spam them people will trust you more as an expert. While you might actually lose some sales in the beginning by building an honest affiliate business over time people will start to trust you and will buy from your recommendations.

2. You will have a better reputation. That means other websites online will look to you as an authority and be more likely to send traffic to your website. The more traffic you get from other places the more commissions you will earn over the long term.

3. Other opportunities open up. By changing your focus to helping people and being an affiliate marketer that uses quality content you establish yourself as an authority and that will open up new opportunities over the long term as other business leaders online will seek you out to do business with you.

So how exactly do you start becoming an internet marketer that focuses on helping people? That is hard to answer as there are a lot of grey areas in affiliate marketing ethics. There is no fine line dividing good and bad practices but here are a few tips to go in the right direction.

1. Don't be a greedy affiliate. That means don't try to sell a product every time you post to a blog or send out an email. It is better to focus on giving out free information and then only tooting your horn once in a while. Remember it is better to lose some sales and build your long term reputation which will be far more valuable. Also don't promote every product you can find just to try and make more commissions. It is better to stay focused on a few quality products you can give honest reviews about which brings me to my next tip.

2. Buy and try out a product yourself before promoting it. This is very important because you don't want to be selling a low quality product. You might get some sales from that practice but you will find there is higher refunds which cut into your commissions. Also you will be much less likely to ever have a repeat sale from a customer if you push products of poor quality.

3. Provide useful content to people. The best way to do that is be very generous in giving out information. Resist the temptation to hold back information just because you are afraid it will cost you a commission. You might lose a commission by giving out too much information but you will gain authority status and trust in the eyes of whoever reads your content.

4. Put yourself in the shoes of the people you market to. Remember people you are marketing to are looking more for information they can use and not necessarily looking to buy something.

5. Focus on quality and not quantity. By that I mean not using spam methods and build a real business instead. For example instead of creating hundreds of spam blogs for the sole purpose of making commissions just create one quality authority blog.

In summary if you want to build a successful long term online affiliate marketing business you need to stop following what most others are doing and start focusing on helping others through useful and helpful content rather than worrying about commissions. If you can do that the commissions will eventually follow.
