High Blood Pressure And How It Is Treated With Oral Drugs

It has been estimated that more than a quarter of the population in the World is affected by hypertension! This condition affects millions of people's productivity and lives and if left untreated can cause further serious damage to vitals and complications. The hypertension is divided into two categories: primary (essential) and secondary (inessential ), with the former found in 90-95% of all the cases. Primary hypertension is caused by numerous factors such as abnormal weight, visceral obesity, sedentary lifestyle, genetic predisposition and stress cause the primary hypertension, while the secondary hypertension is normally a result of a disease.

To diagnose this condition three readings are taken, usually at least a week apart from each other – it should be noted that young adults, children and elderly people don't have the same blood pressure and although often readings higher than 150/90 (systolic/diastolic) are a sign of hypertension, this isn't always the case. Once a patient has been diagnosed, the treatment should be started promptly since high blood pressure can cause complications like stroke, heart attack, hardened arteries, kidney disease, retinal damage, end-stage renal disease, angina, cerebral hemorrhage and others.

Most patients are treated with one or more oral medications such as the highly effective Atacand 16 mg and Calan Sr. Calan Sr is a slow-release solution of substance Verapamil and is typically recommended only to patients that suffer from HBP, while the traditional Verapamil is prescribed for treating various other diseases as well. The principal advantage of the long-working Calan Sr tablets over the normal Verapamil is the fact that they are taken only once (and very rarely twice) daily as opposed to the traditional tablets that should be taken four times. This fact lets the patient to follow the treatment course easily, which will help them keep the blood pressure within the norm.

Atacand 16mg is a angiotensin II receptor antagonist, which has a different mechanism of action but is also very effective and recommended to patients with hypertension either on its own or with other HBP drugs.

Both medications come in a few different doses and in the majority of the cases, the physician would recommend the lowest available dosage at first, which can be increased if the blood pressure doesn't normalize.

Atacand and Calan Sr can be found in many of the online pharmacies. There they are sold as generic Calan Sr or generic Atacand, and are much cheaper. The price difference between the brand name and the generic medicines is due to the lower marketing and labor costs, still the generics comply with the same high manufacturing and safety standards and have the same main active components. If you are considering purchasing these medications online, you should consult with your physician first as different dosages and forms of the medications are available and you should make sure that you are purchasing the proper one.

If you have obtained the Calan Sr and Atacand 16mg from your pharmacy or online, you should always stick to the recommended dose, take the pills as directed, and not interrupt the treatment course unless your physician has recommended you to.
