A healthy blood pressure reading of 120 over 80 says your cardiovascular system is operating properly and doing just fine. On the other hand, readings of 120-139/80-89 are an indication of pre hypertension, and you need to know this before damage is done.

Some people starting a high blood pressure diet may also be overweight and by adopting a healthy diet for coronary care, they can also drop the pounds. If you're overweight, your heart is forced to work much harder to push the blood through your body so a high blood pressure diet would be a sensible approach to weight loss.

Some of the hardest things to do in the world are to lose weight and to quit smoking. A couple years ago I was confined to my house for months. I only got up to walk to the bathroom because of the intense pain of my back injury. For ten months I only left my house to go to the doctor and I only got up when I absolutely had to.

I was not eating at all and when I did eat, it was a very painful experience. During that ten months, my doctor began treating my high blood pressure. He noticed that my blood pressure was getting way to high so he put me on medicine. My blood pressure stayed high and for months the pills were not helping.

I lost over 30 pounds in those ten months which is a significant weight loss. By the time the ten months were over my blood pressure was back to normal, and I was off the medicine. Within 7 months I had gained all the weight back due to a poor diet and lack of control. Needless to say my pressure went back up. My doctor put me on stronger medicine and now my hypertension is back under control again. Does significant weight loss reduce or eliminate hypertension? In my experience it sure does.

If precautions are not taken high blood pressure can cause serious problems. However, by taking care to ensure that you are keeping a blood pressure reading log and talking with your doctor. This information will give the doctor a better understanding of the severity of your condition.
