High Definition Tv's And Dvd Players

Going from an older tube or projection television to HDTV is like apples and oranges, the picture and sound are fabulous. The older TV's did their job well, projecting from inputs such as cable, VHS and DVD's. The DVD players used all the resolution and sound the TV could handle. But there were limits to what it could accomplish, the HDTV has unlimited potential besides the obvious it also allows upgrades.

High definition televisions on the other hand are set up to allow for the best picture and sound quality possible and it has some help from components that make the experience even better. Basic cable, even digital cable doesn't look as good as you would want on an HDTV. You can play VHS on an HDTV, but I dont know why you would. It would not look good anyway. A few years ago everybody used VHS as the main media in their home entertainment theater.

Luckily, the new technology looks even better. DVDs look pretty good on high def televisions, especially when you use an up converting DVD player which is supposed to actually make it look high def. Still, there is something lacking in all of these mediums. For cable to look high definition it must be broadcast in HD and the cable box must be connected to the television with an HDMI cable. It is the only way to get the best picture available from a cable or satellite box.

Next, for watching movies at home, you can still use that DVD player and get a pretty good quality picture out of it, but for a true high definition picture and sound, you must upgrade to a Blu-ray player. Blu-ray players have been around for a couple of years now and the play, you guessed it, Blu-rays.

So you need to know the difference, why is the Blu-ray so much better? There's a capacity quotient on a Blu-ray disc that's far and above DVD, it contains five times the amount of information. They also are a lot tougher, with a coating that resists scratches. But the ultimate is that they are true 1080p high definition, the most fabulous picture available for home theater today.
