Highlighting Broadway Series Entertainment At Newberry Opera House

The historic Newberry Opera House is one of central South Carolina’s premier entertainment venues. An estimated 100,000 people each year enjoy more than 200 events at the facility. The Broadway Series shows are a popular draw each season. Here are some upcoming Broadway Series shows for early 2012.

Ain’t Misbehavin’, The Musical, will come to Newberry for two performances on February 2. This fast paced musical is a tribute to the Black musicians of 1930s Harlem. It will be an evening of rowdy, humorous entertainment featuring songs such as “Honeysuckle Rose” and “That Ain’t Right”. Performances are at 3pm and 8pm, and ticket prices are $40. Dinner packages are available.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day in Newberry with dinner and the theater. Brigadoon, The Musical, comes to town on February 14 with performances at 3pm and 8pm. The popular Lerner and Loewe musical is the story of two American tourists who become lost on a hunting trip to Scotland. They stumble upon a magical town that appears only once every 100 years. Enjoy songs such as “Almost Like Being in Love” and “The Heather on the Hill”. Tickets are $30 and $35, and dinner packages are available.

Burlesque to Broadway comes to the Newberry Opera House on February 29. Audiences will enjoy a Vegas style theatrical concert featuring a 10-piece big band. Songs will include “My Heart Belongs to Daddy”, “Hey Big Spender”, and “Let Me Entertain You”. This night of vaudeville type songs and humor is geared for mature audiences. Show times are at 3pm and 8pm, and ticket prices are $30 and $40.

Fans of country music will want to see Stand by Your Man, The Tammy Wynette Story on April 18. This musical chronicles the life of the late country music legend and includes 26 of her hit songs. Audiences will recognize favorites such as “D-I-V-O-R-C-E”, “Golden Ring”, and “I Don’t Want to Play House Anymore”. Performances are at 3pm and 8pm. Ticket prices are $35 and $40.

The historic Newberry Opera House, with its 130 foot clock tower, is a landmark in downtown Newberry. Built in 1881, the Opera House underwent a major renovation in 1998 to transform it into a performing arts facility that can host a variety of entertainment programs. State of the art sound and lighting systems make the Opera House a popular venue with audiences from all over the region. The Newberry Opera House is located at 1201 McKibben Street.
