History Of The Swag Lamp
In the 80’s these swag lamps became very popular among pool halls, floating over every pool table. They give me a nostalgic feeling every time I enter a pool room. These lamps were usually made from plastic and occasionally from fabric with designs made from embroidery supplies and embroidery stabilizer. The most common type of swag lamps are now made from stained glass. Many different patterns and images can be stained into the shade casting a very cool lighting effect. These types of swag lamps can be found in diners above tables. Some diners looking for an eclectic environment put a unique type of swag lamp over top of each table. Another place that you will find swag lamps is above desks, and kitchen islands. Without the use of a swag lamp, the typical kitchen island would be difficult to light since they are typically located in the center of the room away from any reasonable place to add a light. A desk can be a great location for a swag lamp as well, since one usually requires light to be directed on to the working area, and this would be near impossible to achieve otherwise. In today’s day and time, swag lamps are used as home décor. The many different types can be used to create a great feel from the past. Not only do they have much functionality, but they are also beautiful works of art. I highly suggest that you look for a place in your own home or restaurant that you think would be a great fit for a swag lamp and go out and get one.
