Holiday Happenings In Scottsboro, Alabama
The Scottsboro Christmas Parade is scheduled for Monday, December 5. The theme of this year’s parade is “A Storybook Christmas.” Marching bands, antique cars, and floats will wind through downtown Scottsboro beginning at 6pm. The parade is the finale of the last First Monday Weekend of the year. Thousands of visitors come into town for the weekend festival, with vendors selling everything from craft items to antiques. Those who are unable to make the Scottsboro parade will have opportunities to see other parades in nearby communities. On December 3 Christmas parades are scheduled in Flat Rock at 10am, Bridgeport and Woodville at 11am, Stevenson at 1:30pm, and Pisgah at 4pm. Several other towns will have their Christmas parades on December 10. The Dutton parade will take place at 11am and the Skyline parade will be at 1pm. The Section, Alabama Christmas Parade is scheduled for 2pm, and the Hollywood, Alabama parade will start at 5pm. These small town parades get everyone in the holiday spirit. Northeast Alabama Community College in nearby Rainsville will present their “Spirit of Christmas” pageant on December 2 and 3. On Friday night the program includes a concert by the NACC Chorus. The Saturday program begins with a NACC Jazz Band performance. The second part of the program each night is a Christmas nativity, complete with live animals. The program is a community tradition that is fun for the whole family. The programs begin at 7pm, and tickets are $5. The Scottsboro-Jackson Heritage Center will hold its holiday open house on December 2 from 4:30-8pm. The stately Greek Revival style home will be decked out in holiday splendor. On Sunday, December 4 children may visit with Santa at the Heritage Center from 1:30-3:30pm. The Heritage Center is located at 208 South Houston Street. A number of small Scottsboro stores offer an alternative to mall shopping. Gina’s and Wimberly House Interiors & Gifts, both located on South Broad Street, sell gift items, accessories, and home décor. Jack & Jill Children’s Clothing on East Laurel Street offers cute children’s clothing and accessories. Wales Jewelers on Laurel Street has been selling quality jewelry for over 75 years. Ann’s Apparel & Accessories on South Broad Street takes care of women’s clothing needs. For a unique shopping experience, visit Unclaimed Baggage on West Willow Street. The facility offers a huge selection of jewelry, electronics, clothing, cameras, and sporting goods that are brought in daily. Shoppers are sure to find some great bargains.
