Home Audio Systems

Home audio systems used to fall into one of two camps, you either had high end “audiophile” products that cost as much as a good second hand car (even more sometimes) or low quality mass produced gimmicky products that were covered in flashing lights and provided quite poor sound quality.

High end home audio systems have traditionally appealed to sections of the public how are either obsessed with music or need to have the best quality gadgets, to these people possessing the perfect home audio system is something that takes a lot of time and research to match the separate components of their system and provide the highest possible sound quality their budgets can afford. The resulting home audio systems they build often take up a lot of room and look more like the control centre at NASA than the kind of home audio systems most people might have.

At the other end of the scale are the super cheap home audio systems some of us may have had in our rooms as children. These home audio systems did not offer anything near the kind of sound quality that high end home audio systems did but seem to make up for it with the amount of lights and dials on show, they always seemed to include a graphic equaliser that did nothing to improve sound quality of the horrible plastic speakers.

As with most products, modern advances in manufacturing and electronics have lead to huge improvements in the sound quality (and affordability) of home audio systems. The digital age which first brought us CD’s, then MP3’s, DVD’s and now BLU-Ray has allowed people to enjoy increasingly good sound quality from their home audio systems whilst paying far less for them in real terms than they did 20 or 30 years ago.

The improvements in electronics have not only benefitted home audio systems, they have also lead to huge developments in portable audio. The personal stereo was a symbol of the 1980’s with the “walkman” being the vanguard, however these days even the cheapest MP3 player boast features that make even a top of the range walkman seem quite primitive. The amount of storage you get in such a compact device is the first thing you notice about modern personal stereo’s with even the cheapest MP3 player holding up to 250 songs and none of the problems of tape cassettes getting chewed up to spoil your favourite songs whilst out and about.

So there has never been a better time to invest in audio products, whether this means one of the well features home audio systems to enjoy movies and music at home or a portable solution that allows you to conveniently listen whilst on the move. In both cases you can be sure that you will enjoy better sound quality and well designed features at a price that is definitely cheaper than ever.
