Home Cleaning: It's Good To Go Green

Switching to green cleaning products is easy and incredibly beneficial for you and the environment. Even though you're cleaning with less harmful products you can still clean your home to a spotless shine. The ideas that follow are simple but helpful and are only a few of the many things you can do.

Start using green cleaners. Cleaners made from renewable resources like tree bark and plants are not toxic and are biodegradable unlike many other harsh cleaning solutions. Birch bark or palm kernel oil are just a couple of natural resources that are commonly found in environmentally-friendly cleaners. Whether you want a cleaner that is scented, fragrance free or pH-neutral, you can choose from many options. You can be assured that these products are non-toxic and won’t damage your home.

Improve the air in your home. Typical cleaners can emit harsh chemicals and scents that bother your eyes, sinuses or skin. Then there is also the presence of microscopic dust and other allergens that float around in your home. Typical air fresheners like sprays and candles can sometimes make problems worse. A good solution is to use natural air sprays or boil a pot of cinnamon or herbs to spread a healthy, fresh aroma. Baking soda is a very traditional way to eliminate odors in your fridge as well as when you're vacuuming. Plants like Peace Lilies or others with broad green leaves are great for filtering air even though they don't necessarily freshen it.

Keep toxic substances off your floors and out of your home. It's a real chore to keep floors clean and spotless. The toxins and pollutants that can be tracked on the bottom of shoes can create an unhealthy environment as well as making a mess. A good way to help the problem is to have quality doormats at your doors. An even better way to alleviate the problem is to institute a no-shoe policy indoors.

There are many other green cleaning tips that can make a big difference in your home and for your health. Limiting your use of antibacterial cleaners and getting rid of toxic cleaners safely are just a couple of ways to make a difference. There is an abundance of eco-friendly information out there if you want to learn and do more.

By taking a few simple steps you can begin to live a greener lifestyle. It's up to you how green to make it. Green cleaning simply means using more of what nature has to offer to clean your home rather than harsh synthetic chemicals. If you want to clean and be green, it's a good way to start.
