Most people are less than satisfied with the appearance of their home, but don’t have the time or the money to do anything about it. Your home should be an expression of your personal style and tastes, so it can be incredibly frustrating if you feel unhappy in your home. Luckily, with just a little ingenuity and enthusiasm it’s entirely possible to give your home the face lift it needs. Completing small, inexpensive changes can really make all of the difference in the world. If your budget is really tight, then you’ve got to narrow down your focus to just one part of your home. Whether it is your bathroom, your bedroom or your porch, choose the place that you are least satisfied with and follow my tips. You’ll find quick updates that you and your family will notice and love.
1. Porch/Entrance. First impressions last, so you want to have an inviting and attractive front entrance. Guests always notice if it’s poorly taken care of or in need of some updates. A great way to improve your entrance’s appearance is to add a healthy green potted plant. You can purchase an attractive plant and holder for around $25. If this isn’t enough change for you, consider painting your front door a new color. Bright colors like red will really draw the eye in and make other negative points less obvious. Make sure it’s a can of high gloss enamel and it shouldn’t cost you more than $25.
2. Bathroom. You want your bathroom to remind you of being at a spa, but if you get out of the shower feeling dirtier than you did before you got in, its time to make some changes. Giving you bathroom a good scrub down is a free way to update your bathroom right away. Consider purchasing a set of matching towels and some new bathroom accessories. Look for deals because towels can get pretty expensive. You can also paint the walls a new bright color or hang up some inexpensive artwork. The design of your bathroom doesn’t need to be complicated, so you can even create some of the artwork yourself. Framing seashells for example is an easy and cheap way to add a little decoration.
3. Kitchen. It’s incredibly unappetizing if you don’t have a clean kitchen. One of the simplest updates you can do is to thoroughly clean everything, especially your cabinets. Give them a good scrub down and you’ll be amazed at the difference it will make. Also give the floor a good mopping. After you’ve done this, consider updating the hardware you have on your cabinets. Decorative knobs and hinges are surprisingly cheap, just check out your local hardware store. You can also try sanding and painting for a quick improvement. Be sure to choose a neutral color that will work with any colors, should you decide to make additional updates in the future.
When it comes to updating your home on a budget, you’ve got to think outside of the box. You don’t need to hire a contractor or spend thousands of dollars on new furniture for every room. Just keep it simple. Adding a splash of new paint or just giving your home a thorough scrub can make a dramatic difference. You and your family will be much happier even with the smallest improvements.
