Some parents choose to homeschool their children for a variety of reasons. There are many advantages to this type of schooling. One huge drawback is not being able to properly teach advanced subjects. As a parent if you aren't good at math, for example, you can't teach higher math to your child properly. There are some ways around this so that your child can get the proper education despite these circumstances.

The most common way of teaching harder subjects is to buy DVDs for those subjects. There are many homeschool materials that can be purchased by the subject with daily video lessons for your child to watch with workbooks to help you teach and tutor your child if need be. This is the easiest way since your child will be watching an hour's worth of video from a teacher each day just like he or she was in a classroom.

Another option some parents are taking is enrolling their older high school students in online college classes. Many of these are similar to what your child would get in high school. These will give lessons and guidelines to what is taught. You can have your child take these for credit or just audit the class.

Find a tutor for your child. There might be just a subject or two that you will need help teaching. A tutor can fill in where you can't do the job and help get your child the education that he or she needs. There are many kids in public schools that also have tutors as certain subjects are hard to understand.

Find a homeschooling group. There might be a parent who fills in for other parents by teaching certain subjects. This group will also have access to a variety of resources. You might be able to borrow videos that have already been used once to help you save some money.
