Hope And Freedom –movie The Shawshank Redemption

I have watched the movie The Shawshank Redemption twice, and I think I’d like to watch it another time.

The movie talks about stories between Andy Dufrensne and other prisoners in the Shawshank. The story unfolds as the film goes on. In 1946, a banker named Andy Dufresne is convicted of a double murder, even though he stubbornly proclaims his innocence. He's sentenced to a life term at the Shawshank State Prison in Maine, where another lifer, Ellis "Red" Redding, picks him as the new recruit most likely to crack under the pressure. The ugly realities of prison life are quickly introduced to Andy: a corrupt warden, sadistic guards led by Capt. Byron Hadley, and inmates who are little better than animals, willing to use rape or beatings to insure their dominance.

In the movie there’s a representation for the prisoners in the prison Shawshank. While Andy first time ambles over to break the month-long silence, we can see talks between Red and Andy goes as follows.

Red: Why’d you do it?
Andy: I didn't, since you ask.
Red: (chuckling) You’re gonna fit right in. Everybody in (here) is innocent. Didn't you know that?...Rumor has it you're a real cold fish. You think your s--t smells sweeter than most. Is that right?
Andy: What do you think?
Red: I'll tell ya the truth. I haven't made up my mind.

But Andy does not crack: he has the hope of the truly innocent, which (together with his smarts) allow him to prevail behind bars. He uses his banking skills to win favor with the warden and the guards, doing the books for Norton's illegal business schemes and keeping an eye on the investments of most of the prison staff. In exchange, he is able to improve the prison library and bring some dignity and respect back to many of the inmates, including Red. Based on a story by Stephen King, The Shawshank Redemption was the directorial debut of screenwriter Frank Darabont.

Posters for the film illustrate the liberating, redemptive power of hope and the religious themes of freedom and resurrection, with the words: "Fear can hold you prisoner, Hope can set you free."

At first Andy was a hotshot banker, young and smart, with an infinitely bright future, but his little world crushed down immediately. “This is my life. Don’t you get it?” At the first time Andy lost his calmness and yelled at the warden when he refused to give Andy the chance to get out. How ironic is it. It seems that everything just went wrong, but he could do nothing about it. Actually at the first time I have no idea whether he is innocent or not. But what he did in the Shawshank was really moved and impressed, and finally we found that he was truly innocent. Eventually some bird’s feather are just too bright, and cannot be caged.

At the end of the movie, Red found the place that Andy told him, and he rushed to meet Andy. Near the beautiful breathtaking view of the Zihuatanejo shore, Andy was painting a boat, waiting for his old pal Red. The clean blue unmatched sky and the infinite peaceful sea connect with each other without a rim. The fresh sea-breeze was blowing, the two people met.
