“How can I know for sure that we are sexually compatible?” This is a question that runs through the mind of many couples during a relationship, particularly those entertaining thoughts of marriage.

You may be thinking to yourself, “I feel like I am pleasing my mate, but I really don’t know for certain.” In fact in some cases, particularly in strong Christian relationships, both are saving themselves for marriage and have no idea regarding their sexually compatibility. How could you possibly know in that case?

Whatever your situation is, the bedrock of any and all relationships is communication (does that surprise you). Do you realize that sex, in and of itself, is in essence a form of communication? It is the most wonderful expression of love in the right context.

There are some out there that say the answer is not communication and indeed is much easier than that. Simply sleep with the person, even several times if necessary, and you will know whether or not you are sexually compatible simply by how much each of you enjoyed the other. This, however, does not solve the long term question of true intimacy and love that a healthy, long-lasting and fulfilling sexual relationship provides.

It can be very awkward for some to talk about sex with their significant other. Even married couples that have been together for years can have difficulty when broaching the subject. However, nothing is worse than waking up months or years later having ignored the subject, only to find out that your spouse is now attracted to someone else because their needs were not being met.

In fact, ignoring the issue will generally allow it to fester if indeed there are issues. So if you have questions or concerns, you want to be sure to discuss them with your partner.
