How Do You Fix A Broken Relationship?

If you have ever been in a relationship that was rocky, or experienced the end of a long term relationship, then you already know how hard it can be. This is why it is easy to find a lot of information about how to fix your broken relationship.

Before you waste your time and effort though, think long and hard about whether your old relationship is worth trying to save. If you are experiencing so much pain, it is possible that your union isn't worth saving. Here are some tips to fix your troubled relationship if you really want them back.

Give Things Time

While it is counter-intuitive, anyone with successful experience in how to fix a broken relationship will speak to the fact that waiting a month or two before trying to save things is important. Calling your ex to talk to them immediately is the biggest mistake you can make.

The feeling of missing your ex can be a very hard feeling at times, but it is crucial to keep in mind that they might be still angry with you and vice versa. Time can seem to slow down when people are going through painful breakups. Everyone may have calmed down some and be more effective at unraveling the issue with some time and perspective.

Prior to attempting to talk through the problems, you both need time to think and calm down. Also, acting desperate or pleading with your ex can push your ex further away from you.

It sounds selfish, but at the onset of a breakup, focus on yourself and your needs, instead of your ex's. Decide what you want and take the time to find out what your needs actually are. Do things to nurture yourself and cheer yourself up. Go see friends and reconnect. Don't ramble on endlessly about your ex. Get/Stay in shape and start working out frequently. Make sure you eat right and take care of your body.

Here is another wonderful tip for how to fix a broken relationship. Invest the time to think about what the problems were in every area of the relationship and attempt to get into your partner's point of view. Ask yourself what problems contributed to the breakup and what both of you could have done differently.

Think about what made you happy with the relationship before things went wrong. Then decide what the positives were as well as the negatives. You will know if the relationship is worth saving. Try to move on with your life while you are working through all of this as best you can. Do things to nurture yourself like going to the spa, socializing, buying new clothes and getting a haircut.

Start Communicating

It might be time to take some small steps to rebuild communication after a few months have passed if you still want your ex back. Begin by calling. If they seem like they might be open to talking, gently arrange a public, neutral place to talk.

Once you get to the actual meeting, be lighthearted. Attempt to express your feelings in a respectful way. Avoid expressing problems with bitter or harsh words. Never ever swear at your ex or yell. You must also be ready to listen to what your ex has to say even if they seem to blame you for the breakup or use harsh or bitter language. You must be willing to not take what they say personally, even though it will likely seem very personal.

If you really want them in your life, all of these problems must be worked through. Listening to what they have to say is an important step in repairing the relationship. In the beginning, it might seem very confrontational and harsh but they will probably feel better once they get it out if they still love you. Pause to see if you can lighten up the interaction. For the relationship to ultimately work, you must be willing to work on yourself.

Remember that it is not easy and quick to fix a broken romantic relationship. As a matter of fact, relationship repair can be really hard.

Your instinct might be to cling, but if you truly want to repair the union, allow yourself and your partner lots of personal space. Then, once things have cooled off, initiate honest and open communication with your ex.
